PROPOSED ITINERARY FOR THE SISTERS MEETING SISTERS EXCHANGE
The role of the Sisters Meeting Sisters committee in Madison, Wisconsin, is only to fund and facilitate this project. The itinerary below has been created from the recommendations of the womens organizations from Viet Nam and El Salvador.
MADISON, WISCONSIN
The womens delegations from Viet Nam and El Salvador arrive in Madison and meet for the first time.
Introduce the women of Viet Nam and El Salvador to Madison.
Meetings with womens organizations from Madison. Discussion of issues of mutual concern, gender issues, women in the workplace, women in government, domestic violence, healing and forgiveness. Visit local womens projects, womens shelters
Meetings by the women of Viet Nam and El Salvador with people of Madison through various venues to share their experiences from war and what they wish the people of Madison to learn from these experiences.
Vietnamese and El Salvadoran delegations fly to El Salvador.
EL SALVADOR
Meetings by the women from Viet Nam with the Womens Secretariat of the Faribundo Marti Front for National Liberation (FMLN), the Melida Anaya Montes Womens Movement Association and other womens organizations in San Salvador. Exchange of histories of womens roles in Viet Nam and El Salvador. Discussion of globalization, privatization and womens role in government.
Meetings in rural El Salvador where both womens delegations will discuss their histories, local governments, womens participation, advances for women since the end of the war, obstacles facing women. Then visit womens projects such as loan fund projects and womens communal bank.
At the end of the week long stay in El Salvador both groups will meet a final time to reflect on the exchange and evaluate it in order to prepare for future exchanges which will include women from other countries devastated by war.
The women from Viet Nam fly to Madison for a day of rest and then fly back to Viet Nam.
